The Gulf Photo Plus community has announced its annual educational photography workshop event, Gulf Photo Plus 2008. The Dubai held event will have this year more than 90 workshop sessions on various photography topics delivered by about 15 international high profile photographers over the period from the 30th of April to the 4th of May. The event sessions will cover topics such as composition, commercial photography, lighting, post-processing, product shots, and many others. Anna Mair Photography Exhibition at Bait Al Baranda

Earlier this evening we attended the opening of Anna Mair’s photography exhibition at Bait Al Baranda Museum. The event was inaugurated by Anna’s cute little daughter Aria and her school friend Menaa. Anna’s photography was beautiful, the place was nice, and we managed to chat with a number of interesting people at the event including Anna herself. The event will be open to the public from Saturday the 9th to Thursday the 14th of Feb, make sure you pay it a visit if you have the chance. Free Lightroom Getting Started Guide

Adobe has published on its website a free guide on using its photo management and editing application Lightroom. Photoshop Lightroom Getting Started Guide offers details on the various features of the program and tips on how to integrate it into a proper complete workflow. The 41-pages colourful PDF book comes in two versions, a 64MB high-res version and a 5.4MB low-res version. You can view the announcement at the Photoshop Lightroom Design Center.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H9 and DSC-H7

Sony recently announced its kept secret the Cyber-shot SC-H7 and H9, which replace the H2 and H5. The new models both support 8.1 megapixel sensors, HDTV output, 15x stabilized zooms and NightShot technology for, apparently, shooting in total darkness. They also have automatic face detection technology, which fashioned earlier in 2007. The DSC-H9 and DSC-H7 cameras will ship in April for about $480 and $400 respectively. Olympus SP-510 UZ

Olympus announced today the SP-510 UZ, a new Ultra Zoom camera with a 7 megapixel digital CCD, 10x optical zoom, ISO up to 1600, 2.5″ LCD, full manual and automatic shooting modes and image stabilization. The SP-510 is due this September for around $490. You can learn more about it from this page.

Nikon Announces the D80

Nikon announced today its new digital DSLR the D80 which features a 10.2 Megapixel DX format CCD, Nikon F lens mount, 2.5″ LCD display, quick bootup, 11-point auto focus system, and 3fps image burst mode. The D80 will ship in September for $999 for the body alone and $1299 for it with a 18-135mm lens. You can learn more about the camera and view more photos of it at DCRP.

Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 Review

Digital Photography Review posted yesterday their review of Sony’s first DSLR - the A100. The DSLR that boasts a 10 megapixel CCD, anti-shake capability, in-hardware dynamic range optimisation and eye-start AF was given a ‘Highly Recommended’ award in conclusion by saying that it is “a very capable camera with a wide feature set, a good range of manual controls and some unique developments”. The Omani Society of Arts Photography Exhibition

In celebration of Oman’s Renaissance Day next week, the Omani Society of Arts will hold a photography exhibition in Hayy Al Sarooj displaying 60 photographs showing scenery of the heritage and nature of Oman. The opening of the exhibition was postponed from the 23rd of this month to the 25th as the former was announced a national holiday for the public sector.
